light columns
The Light Columns were created considering the relationship between the natural, the artificial, gender disparity, and permanence. It is an aesthetic backhand, contrasting this girly kitsch material with the masculinity prevalent throughout the history of architecture. In an imagined future, we will transcend the need for physical architecture and monuments will be built of simply light. The artificial mimicking the phenomena of the natural- rainbows, afterglows, halos, mirages, sundogs, mist, and the effect of light cast through clouds. It is a subconscious measuring stick to orient ourselves within time and space. It dazzles and controls us. These Light Columns are in tune with that magic. They create a temple where the sense of self is diminished in their presence.
